My Booker T

For this New Works Project I'm in a group with Odalys and Alexandria. We are going to make a slideshow with pictures of how we see our Booker T. We are also going to include an original piece that Odalys and Alexandria are going to compose. I'm in charge of taking the pictures. We will them put it all together and its going to be something WONDERFUL to show how we feel about BTW.

New works 3rd six weeks

I think that this whole crane thing is really cool. I just hope that someones wish will come true, if not all of ours can come true. I haven't made cranes in forever so it was really cool to be able to do them again. I also haven't written a Haiku in forever so I think its really cool that we get to do the too. So far I am really enjoying New Works.

C3 Project

This circular object is a lifeline for a cellist. Without a rock stop, playing in a performance hall is almost impossible because the end pin of the cello needs to go in the ground and it will not stay unless your end pin is super sharp. I want to do a project explaining how the little things in life really matter. Its amazing how a cellist's performance can be absolutely terrible because their instrument keeps sliding around. In theatre performances and dance performances you need technicians for lights and music. The little things in life really do matter....appreciate them.

Music and Math

The Topic I chose is Music and Math.
I want to talk about the math used everyday with my cello and the math used to make a cello.
Now with the cello there is a lot of measuring used, more than you think. Before you even sit down with the instrument you have to measure and think about the space you want to use ( Am I going to hit the wall with my bow?, Am I going to have enough arm room?). Then once you get situated you have to think "How far do I need to take out my end pin?" and "How far does my cello need to be away from me?"

Then after you get situated and your about play, then you must measure where you want your bow to be on this certain part of your piece. It can be closer to the black finger board, in the middle or closer to the bridge. This also measures how loud you are; close to finger board=soft, closer to bridge=loud.

These are just some of the basic thoughts with playing the cello. Now with the math that actually has to be done with making a cello. When making a cello the measurements have to be exact or else it will not sound good or work very well. I want to talk about how important it is to get the measurements of the bridge and sound post as exact as you can get it. The placement of the bridge has to be exact because it has to elevate the strings and transfer their vibrations to the instrument. The sound post is crucial because it strengthens the cello and hold the vibrations between the back and front of the cello. The sound post (D arrow) has to be in perfect alignment with the bridge (thing with heart in the center). It cannot even be a millimeter off or else it will have to be fixed.

Now I bet you see that the playing and making of the cello is a lot more complicated than you originally thought and I only named the most common and major things. There is a ton more I must say. I hope this gave you a relationship between Math and Music.

Math Questions

1. People hate math if they do not understand it.
2. I like math because I really like solving problems. I honestly do not have a problem with math, I've liked it since the beginning of my years of school. Before BTW, I went to a Montessori school and it really helped me visualize math in a different way. Now at BTW, I have great teachers that really help me out when I need it.
3. Math is important for many artists, including architects, designers, and composers.
4. I think math education can improve if teachers graded based on progress as well as scores.

Bob Marley- Robert Nesta Marley

Basic Facts about my favorite artist Bob Marley

Known as Bob Marley
Real Name- Robert Nesta Marley
Born- Feb. 6 1945
Died- May 11 1981
He classified under the genre of reggae.
Sings vocals, plays guitar, and percussion for his group The Wailers.
He highly believed in Peace, Freedom, and Racial Harmony.
Believed in the Rastafarian Religion.

He was a wonderful artist that cared a lot about people and the world. He wanted to do what he could to make everything better and stress-free.

I also want to get something straight; Bob Marley died of lung, liver, and brain cancer at age 36 on May 11, 1981, in Miami, Florida. It had nothing to do with drugs.

Here is the story:
1977, Marley bought a home in Miami, and other members of his clan later moved there. That same year, he injured his big toe in a friendly soccer game in France while he was there promoting Exodus. It never properly healed, and he refused to have it amputated, saying his Rastafari faith was all the healing he needed. But some believe the infected toe led to cancer that was not identified in stages early enough to be treated.

Just wanted to get a point across to those of you who didn't know. He was a very unique individul with pure and wholesome music.

This is the link of a graph showing a positive correlation. Its showing that as vehicle mileage increases the number of miles people are going have increased. I thought this was a good example of what we were learning in class on Thursday.
